Reflection: Entry #5

Different people have various ways in maintaining a well-balanced financial lifestyle. In my opinion, school is one of the best and safest ways u can succeed in life. Although I have had a poor academic record, I still think that there is nothing better than school. It took me a lot of hard work and determination to get where I am right now, College. When I first enrolled into Fullerton Community College I was very excited and pumped up into starting school again. I had barley finished graduating from High School and it wasn’t that easy for me because I’m the type of person who easily gets distracted, so it was tough for me to keep up with assignments.
The first day of school was pretty hectic because of all the students trying to petition. Luckily, I was able to get enrolled into three classes, Read 96, Computers, and Strength Lab (P.E). I was extremely motivated to start school again, and would try to keep up with all the important assignments and I would pay attention to all the instructions. During the first couple of weeks I slowly started noticing least interest in passing my classed not because I couldn’t pass, but because it was hard for me to pay my class tuitions and buy all my books. I didn’t have a job so I couldn’t pay all my fines. So at times I would get really stressed out and I would start thinking of dropping out of school so I can get a decent job. Luckily, my dad lends me $280 to purchase all my required books, and I managed to pay off all my classes with the money I had saved in the bank. Although I had paid my all my classes I wasn’t really satisfied with my academic progress. It was very hard for me to concentrate and to study for the test because I didn’t have a Laptop for my assignments, I would always have to be borrowing my sister’s laptop to complete most of my homework assignments. When I received my FAFSA grant it made a big difference because with the money they gave me, I was able to purchase a brand new lap top of my choice. I definitely feel more motivated in continuing my education because I’m more comfortable with my Laptop. So in my opinion I think the whole laptop thing is going to improve my academic skills, I am also going to have to spend more time at school to studying rather than being outside having a good time. So I’m going to have to cut down on a lot of fun stuff, but in the end it is all going to be worth it.

Entry #4 My Goals

In this world there are many tough obstacles that are inevitable to become successful in life. Thats why its a good idea to set yourself three goals you can look forward to everyday, a long term goal, mid term goal, and a short term goal. Here are some examples of my goals.

Long Term Goal:One long term goal that I am eventually going to accomplish is becoming the owner of a some type of business or restaurant. Ive always wanted to be the owner of a business simply because I would rather have people working for me, rather than me working for them.
Mid Term Goal:One mid term goal that I believe is extremely necessary, is start saving up money to purchase a brand new vehicle, that way I don't have to ride my bike or take the bus to anymore.
Short Term Goal:And finnaly a short term goal that I definitely need to increase the chances of achieving my other goals is to find a better job, or better yet move my way up the ladder on my current job at the Angels Stadium, that way I could earn fatter paychecks.

Dear Angela Henderson,

It’s been a long year since I was last in your class, so I don’t know if u remember me, but I had you for Read 96 in room 1419. Anyways I’m simply writing you this letter to let you know that it was a pleasure to be in your class, and also to explain to you how successful everything has been working out for me. Ever since you assigned us that work assignment about setting ourselves long term goals & short term goals, I set myself to actually accomplish those goals and slowly but surely I’m making my way to the top.
Although I am not anywhere near close of achieving my long term goal of owning my own restaurant or business. I would like to share with you how I achieved my other goals. First of all I managed to accomplish my short term goal of getting a better job by simply working harder and being more responsible. I still work at the Angels Stadium but only that now I’m a cook not a food runner. This is a big improvement for me because not only do I get paid more, but I enjoy cooking food and learning how to make new dishes. They also have me working 8 hour shifts so it really helps me earn more money faster.
And finally my mid-term goal was to save enough money to buy a brand new car. Although I didn’t a purchase car, I did buy a semi-new 2006 white Ford Ranger. It’s definitely a good truck that I don’t regret buying, not only does it save me gas, but it is also very comfortable and it only fits three people. This is also a good advantage because now my friends won’t have to ask me to go take them parting or to drive them to places. Maybe I still will only that now I can only take two people. Anyways, it would have been hard to buy this truck if it wasn’t for the new position I have in the kitchen as a cook.
I am glad of my success in achieving these two goals, and I’m looking forward to achieving my other two goals, that is completing my general education courses at Fullerton College, and also moving out of my parents and find my own apartment. So I am going to need to work very hard for that. Anyways, thanks a lot Ms. Henderson for assigning us that assignment in class last year. Otherwise, I think I would have still been taking the bus to school and I would have probably still have the same boring job as a food runner. So Thank you once again for being a good teacher and best of wished to you, hope to see you soon.

Sincerely, Louis Luna
